I’ve got a video demonstration, notation, a piano diagram, and some fingering tips for you too.) Let’s get started!

(If you want to check out the other lessons in this series you can start with how to play a C piano chord.)

Why not take a quick moment and watch this video? I teach you how to play the Db piano chord. Once you see it you’ll never forget it! 🙂

Db Piano Chord Diagram

Here’s a diagram of what the Db chord looks like on piano. The highlighted red notes are the ones you’ll play. You can always remember that Db is like an oreo cookie 🙂 There are 2 black notes on the outside and a white note in the middle.

(For your reference…middle C is the white note all the way on the left.)

Db Piano Chord Fingering

As we talked about in the previous chord lesson, building the right muscle memory is a very important part of learning piano. That’s why I always recommend you use consistent fingerings while learning a new chord shape.

Use the same fingering initially will help your hand memorize the feeling of this chord and build your tactile memory.

For your reference:

  • The thumb is called finger #1 in both the left and right hands.
  • Your middle finger is finger number #3 in both the left and right hands.
  • Your pinky is called finger number 5 ((this is true for both hands)

To start with, use fingers numbers 1, 3, and 5 in your left hand and your right hand when playing this chord.

What To Do Next

Practice this chord in both the left and right hand. You’ll want to be able to play it without any hesitation. This may take a small amount of practice but it’s worth it! Once you learn how to play your major chords in all 12 keys on piano you’ll be a much better piano player!

As a reminder, this is a whole series of lesson on major piano chords. I’ll be adding the other 10 keys very soon. (C has already been posted and you can see it here). Keep checking back on the site to see the new lessons as they’re posted.

Chords And Scales Are Friends

Learning some basic music theory will also be helpful for you as you learn piano. Once you get comfortable with this Db piano chord I recommend you also check out this lesson on building major scales on the piano. Have fun!

Hello, Steve. I find your pianolessonsonline most helpful indeed. In my view, you are able to relate to absolute beginners like me primarily because you first put yourself In our shoes. I feel so motivated now, having made progress. At age 77, I thought I was too old to learn playing the piano. Life’s so good! Many thanks & God bless. – JAMES

I would like to play “Amazing Grace” using both hands (melody and chords). I looked for the letter notation in your website but couldn’t find it. Do you have one? Thanks.
    Regards
